The last decade of Met Gala red carpets have brought us not only some incredible fashions, but adorable couple moments, too. And with the first Monday in May fast approaching, we can’t help but daydream about the coordinated outfits and PDA-filled photo-ops we’ve been granted over the years.
From meet-cutes and debuts to pregnancy announcements, the Met steps have always been a place for sartorial soulmates to find each other or cement their relationship status, and we can’t get enough of the stylish pairings.
As fans prepare to watch the fashion pack descend on New York’s cultural institution, we’ll be looking out for our favourite couples and manifesting appearances from some of the more low-key lovers who are yet to walk the hallowed storied steps hand-in-hand.
So, in celebration of the 2025 event, we’re looking back at the couples who came before. From the short-lived loves, to the Met Gala mainstays (we’re looking at you, Blake and Ryan), these are our favourite Met Gala couple moments, from 2013 to today.
The Best Met Gala Couple Moments
Dua Lipa & Callum Turner
Currently one of Hollywood’s strongest and low-key couples, recently engaged Dua Lipa and Callum Turner made their Met Gala red carpet debut, nailing their look with the Levitating singer looking elegant in Chanel.

Rihanna & A$AP Rocky
Mum and Dad! While Rihanna and A$AP Rocky may not have walked the red carpet together, they both stole the show with the Umbrella songstress announcing her pregnancy just before her arrival.

Gabrielle Union & Dwyane Wade
Honestly, we have absolutely no notes. Gabrielle Union Wade and husband Dwyane Wade were one of our favourite couple looks of the 2025 Met Gala.

Sabrina Carpenter & Barry Keoghan, 2024
At the 2024 Met Gala, fans were excited to see Barry Keoghan and Sabrina Carpenter make their first official red carpet debut. And although their love wasn’t a lasting one, we’re still thinking about the moment fondly. This year, the couple both graced the carpet separately and they weren’t the only exes to risk a run-in.

Nicole Kidman & Keith Urban, 2024
Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban made an adorable entrance to the 2024 Met Gala, when Keith gazed adoringly at his Hollywood star wife – barely letting go of her hand the whole evening.

Eddie Redmayne & Hannah Bagshawe
Hannah Bagshawe and Eddie Redmayne arrived at the 2024 Met Gala in matching Steve O Smith outfits.

Sam Smith & Christian Cowan, 2024
Sam Smith and Christian Cowan made their Met Gala debut on the 2024 green carpet—and we couldn’t be happier for this adorable pair.

Rihanna & A$AP Rocky, 2023
Few couples have the power to shut down the entire Met Gala red carpet, but that’s exactly what Rihanna and A$AP Rocky did in 2023. The power couple arrived (extremely) fashionably late, when most of the other guests had already made their way inside, and so were left to a virtually empty set of red steps. Iconic.

Serena Williams & Alexis Ohanian, 2023
Is there a chicer place to announce your second pregnancy than the Met Steps? No, according to Serena Williams and husband Alexis Ohanian, who announced they were expecting another child at the Met Gala in 2023. Talk about a power couple!

Kaia Gerber & Austin Butler, 2022
While they walked the red carpet separately, Kaia and Austin met at the top of the Met steps to make their official public debut. Although their faces in the below image pretty much say it all, the couple proved just how in love they are when they leant in for a quick kiss between photos.

Blake Lively & Ryan Reynolds, 2022
Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds are practically Met Gala royalty, with five red carpet appearances as a couple under their belt. The power couple even acted as co-chairs for the 2021 iteration, which celebrated the theme, ‘Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination’.

Joe Jonas & Sophie Turner, 2022
In 2022, a pregnant Sophie Turner and then-husband Joe Jonas took to the Met’s red carpet together. In a stunning display of couple dressing, Sophie and Joe wore co-ordinated Louis Vuitton looks, perfectly embodying the grandeur of that year’s theme, ‘In America: An Anthology of Fashion’.

Brooklyn Beckham & Nicola Peltz, 2021
In 2021, following in the footsteps of his famous parents, Brooklyn Beckham made his Met Gala debut, with then-fiancé Nicola Peltz at his side. The pair both donned Valentino for the occasion — a tradition they continued the following year, when they attended as husband and wife.

Rihanna & A$AP Rocky, 2021
In 2021, Rihanna and A$AP Rocky gave us a lesson in statement dressing, showing up to the Met in matching avant-garde ensembles. Rihanna’s slightly less out-there look came straight from Demna Gvasalia’s debut Balenciaga Couture collection, while her rapper boyfriend wore a patchwork coat by Venice Beach-based designer ERL.
While certainly divisive, the two outfits were undeniably impactful, and will surely be remembered as one of the most iconic instances of couple dressing in Met Gala history.

Lucy Boynton & Rami Malek, 2019
In their only Met Gala appearance together, Lucy Boynton and Rami Malek walked the carpet separately, as is customary when a couple attend with separate designers. But that didn’t stop them getting a sweet snap together on their way into the gala, with Rami in Dior and Lucy in Prada. A fashionable pairing if we’ve ever seen one.

Amal & George Clooney, 2018
Amal Clooney hit the Met steps alongside husband George in a sweeping corset gown and navy pants designed by Richard Quinn. A statement worthy of her role as co-chair that year and a fitting ensemble for the “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination” theme.

Selena Gomez & The Weeknd, 2017
A year after attending the event with ex-girlfriend Bella Hadid, The Weeknd (aka Abel Tesfaye) showed up to the Met Gala with Selena Gomez by his side. Selena glowed in a soft pink gown by Coach, with the couple looking well and truly in love as they packed on the PDA the whole way up the Met steps.

Nick Jonas & Priyanka Chopra, 2017
In a stellar Met Gala love story, when now-married Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra first attended the event they weren’t even dating. In fact, their first appearance together in 2017 was merely because both Nick and Priyanka were dressed by Ralph Lauren for the night. But a romance soon sparked between the pair — they returned to the Met Gala in 2019, this time as a married couple.

Taylor Swift & Joe Alwyn (rumoured), 2016
A lot happens behind the scenes of the Met Gala! While we don’t know for certain, rumour has it that the Met Gala was also the meeting spot for another iconic couple: Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn.
In the song “Dress” on Taylor’s 2017 album Reputation, she sings, “Flashback to when you met me, your buzzed cut and my hair bleached.” If our calculations are correct, that would take us back to the Met Gala of the year before, where Taylor’s hair was, in fact, bleached, and Joe sported a buzz cut.

Gigi Hadid & Zayn Malik, 2016
Gigi and Zayn may have only attended the Met Gala as a couple once, but they certainly made it count. In the chicest interpretation of that year’s theme, ‘Manus x Machina: Fashion In An Age Of Technology’, the co-parents donned matching robotic-looking ensembles, with Tommy Hilfiger behind Gigi’s look, and Versace behind Zayn’s.

Robert Pattinson & FKA Twigs, 2015
Former fiancés Robert Pattinson and FKA Twigs walked the Met Gala red carpet together twice in their time as a couple. We can’t get enough of Twigs’ colourful lace Christopher Kane dress for their red carpet debut back in 2015, which pairs perfectly with Robert’s simple yet chic tuxedo.

Beyonce & Jay Z, 2014
While this power couple stunned on the red carpet, security footage of the night suggested things were not entirely smooth sailing. In a video obtained by TMZ, Beyonce’s sister Solange could be seen attacking Jay Z in an elevator, while a bodyguard attempted to hold her back. Queen Bey never spoke about the incident, but many think that her album Lemonade, which discusses themes of infidelity, may be telling of what actually went down that night.

Hugh Grant & Elizabeth Hurley, 1997
Nineties power couple, Elizabeth Hurley and Hugh Grant turned the Met Gala into date night, wearing Versace in honour of the night’s ode to Gianni Versace.
