The ‘Chanel bride’ used to be a staple at all of Karl Lagerfeld’s Chanel shows—and at last night’s Met Gala, the iconic figure returned in tribute of the late designer.

This time, the bride was modelled by a-list celebrities, such as Penelope Cruz and Dua Lipa, who both turned to the archives to create their Met Gala worthy looks.

And for real brides-to-be, the night provided endless wedding dress inspiration—even for those who don’t have hundreds of thousands to drop on archival Chanel.

Below, our favourite bridal-inspired fashion from the night.

The Princess Gown

As sleek, minimalist wedding gowns have come into style, the full-bodied ‘princess’ dress has fallen out of it—but it looks like that will soon be changing. Met Gala attendees, including Penelope Cruz, Dua Lipa and Alia Bhatt, all opted for a bridal-inspired dress with a round skirt and cinched waistline.

Over-The-Top Embellishments

From floral detailing to ruffles and sequins, the Met Gala’s guests didn’t hold back when it came to embellishing their gowns. We can only wonder whether this means more brides will be foregoing minimalism and embracing maximalist designs when it comes to their wedding day

Cascading Capes

Halle Bailey, Glenn Close and Gisele Bundchen all relied on the cape to add a little extra sartorial drama to their Met Gala look. For this reason, we wouldn’t be surprised if more brides opt for a stylish cape over a traditional veil or train as their wedding dress accessory—especially those brave enough to chance a winter wedding
