These looks were made for dancing.

But the fun–and the fashion–didn’t stop there.

After the gala itself, celebrities ditched their formal wear in favour of more daring ensembles, and flocked to a host of exclusive after parties across New York City.

This transition from formal to fun has been known to produce some of the best fashion moments of the night, and this year was no exception. From super short mini dresses, to a lot of sheer moments, this is what our favourite celebrities wore after the Met Gala.

Rihanna and Dua Lipa

Dua Lipa blessed our Instagram feeds with the crossover we didn’t know we needed. While dressed in contrasting hues, both singers made a strong case for midriff-baring silhouettes, with Dua wearing cropped capris and plenty of Chanel jewellery, and Rihanna looking angelic in a white maxi skirt with a thigh-high split.

Kendall Jenner and Bad Bunny

Kendall Jenner kept her after party look strictly on-themeand proved that sheer dressing is alive and wellin a recreation of an archival Chanel piece by Nensi Dojaka. Her rumoured beau, Bad Bunny, struck a more low-key silhouette, in a brown bomber and dark pants.

Lizzo shone in a liquid gold dress by Paco Robanne, and golden blonde locks to match.

Jared Leto

Jared Leto swapped his Choupette costume for a sheer top with chain-link shoulder detailing. Extra points for repurposing the cat head as an after party accessory.

Emily Ratajkowski

Emily Ratajkowski made not one but two outfit changes throughout the night. The first, a sheer midi dress that would’ve looked right at home on the Met steps. Then, she went for a more daring hemline, in an ultra-mini dress, embellished with purple sequins.

Cara Delevingne

As one of Karl Lagerfeld’s muses, it’s no surprise that supermodel and actress Cara Delvingne scored an invite to Chanel’s exclusive after party. She chanelled the late designer for the occassion, in a strapless dress with details reminiscent of his signature suiting.

Olivia Wilde

Another celeb making a case for naked dressing, Olivia Wilde nailed the assignment in a silver crochet dress, complete with black briefs and chunky black combat boots.

Rita Ora

Rita Ora was another celeb to stick with the theme for the after party, although the singer certainly put her own twist on the ensemble. She stepped out in a vintage Fendi coat, and plenty of Chanel accessories, worn over black undergarments and sheer tights.
