Originally, it was believed that Meghan would dial into the meeting via phone, as she is currently in Canada. That wasn’t the case. And no, it’s not because she was “banned” from the meeting, as British tabloids would have us believe.

Buckingham Palace confirmed that Meghan did not take part in the discussions held by the Queen at Sandringham yesterday.

The couple’s Kensington Palace spokesman explained, “In the end, the Sussexes decided that it wasn’t necessary for the Duchess to join”.

Harry arrived two hours before the official meeting at the Sandringham estate to have a private heart-to-heart with his grandmother.

According to the Queen, the face-to-face meeting was “very constructive”.

“My family and I are entirely supportive of Harry and Meghan’s desire to create a new life as a young family. Although we would have preferred them to remain full-time working Members of the Royal Family, we respect and understand their wish to live a more independent life as a family while remaining a valued part of my family.”

She also noted it had been agreed that there will be a period of transition in which the Sussexes will spend time in Canada and the UK.

“These are complex matters for my family to resolve, and there is some more work to be done, but I have asked for final decisions to be reached in the coming days.”

The task has been left up to the private secretaries of the senior royal family to figure out the finer details of the new arrangement. Sir Edward Young for the Queen, Clive Alderton for Charles, Simon Case for William and Fiona Mcilwham for Harry have been ordered to come to an agreement on details regarding titles, tax bills, royal duties, funding and living arrangements in Canada and the UK, including who will pay to protect them, within days.
