Margot Robbie Gives ‘Bottega Veneta Green’ A 2022 Update At The Governor’s Awards

Sartorially referencing Keira Knightley's iconic ‘Atonement’ dress, perhaps?

After years of working with Chanel, it’s clear that Margot Robbie is a Bottega Veneta girlie now.

Proving her allegiance with the luxury Italian leather-house, Margot stepped out at the 2022 Governor’s Awards in a cut-out, summer-ready dress that can only be described as the modern version of ‘Bottega Green’.

Considering we’re used to seeing Margot covered up in ivory lace, tulle or pearls for her red carpet appearances, this slinky understated two piece is very much the breath of fresh air we needed from the Academy Award nominee.

Opting for a resort-ready ensemble from the label’s recent collection, Margot is highlighting exactly everything we love about Matthieu Blazy’s tenure at the brand: minimalist, effortlessly elegant and incredibly enviable.

Seriously, how long will we have to wait for this to drop in stores before we take a trip to our nearest fabric store to replicate this look ourselves?

Featuring an asymmetrical detailing, cut-out waist and ruched skirt (a formula which Australia’s very own Christophe Esber has indeed perfected), we can’t help but wonder if Margot is perhaps still in her ‘Malibu Barbie’ character.

One look at this look, which she completed with the jewellery trend of the moment: chunky accessories, and you’re immediately transported to the sandy shores of California.

Given that summer is just around the corner, this balmy ensemble couldn’t have come at a better time,

However, given the high-octane hue, Margot could possibly be giving Kiera Knightley’s iconic green dress from Atonement a modern day makeover.

She is attending *the* pre-Academy Awards party after all. And what’s a red carpet moment without sartorially an iconic look or the movie you’re promoting.

What was so memorable about the Atonement dress, and what’s stood out in Margot’s own iteration, is the casually chic nature of the garment. Equally unpretentious as it is headline making, it’s clear that emerald green and snug dressing is a timeless, winning formula.

Of course, given that Bottega Veneta has a monopoly on green, perhaps this look is signalling the ‘Bottega Green’ revival is imminent.

Arguably one of the most viral fashion moments from 2021, Daniel Lee’s ‘Bottega Green’ was the forbearer for the likes of PP Pink, showcasing the versatility of a hue in becoming synonymous with both a fashion house and a moment in time.

However this new iteration, which is more muted and even forest-like in nature, could be a signal that even Bottega’s green is succumbing to the ‘sleaze’ trend sweeping aesthetic and cores.

Slightly more grungier and undone than last year’s counterpart, Margot’s choosing of this ensemble is sending a clear message.
