Book-to-screen adaptations have seen a resurgence of late, with the likes of Daisy Jones & The Six, The Last Thing He Told Me, and more recently, The Idea of You, dusting off our favourite novels and turning them into binge-worthy hits.
One of the most popular films to make the rounds last year was Red, White & Royal Blue, based on Casey McQuiston’s critically acclaimed New York Times best-seller, which tells the tale of two young men from opposite sides of the ocean but with similar political pedigree.
Featuring all the highs and lows of an enemies-to-lovers trope (the superior of them all we might add), along with a dash of politics, drama and well, romance of course, Red, White & Royal Blue was a hit among the romantics.
So, it comes as no surprise that there’s a sequel on the way. Below, we’ve gathered everything you need to know.
What Is ‘Red, White & Royal Blue’ About?
On the surface, Alex Claremont-Diaz, who is the son of the President of the United States, and Britain’s Prince Henry have a lot in common. Both share stunning good looks, undeniable charisma, international popularity … and a total disdain for each other.
Separated by an ocean, their long-running feud hasn’t really been an issue until a disastrous and very public altercation at a royal event becomes tabloid fodder, driving a potential wedge in U.S./British relations at the worst possible time.
Going into damage-control mode, their families and handlers force the two rivals into a staged “truce.” But as Alex and Henry’s icy relationship unexpectedly begins to thaw into a tentative friendship, the friction that existed between them sparks something deeper than they ever expected.
And while we’ll avoid spoilers (for now), the film delivered a stunning ending – but clearly, there’s more to be explored because a sequel has been confirmed. Plot details are being kept under wraps, but stay tuned for more details.
