By now, you’ve probably heard about the weighted blanket. Also known as a calming blanket, the heavy throws are said to help with everything from stress to anxiety.
Weighted blankets have flooded the market, which makes for plenty of choice, especially aesthetically, but also makes everything quite confusing – especially given the fact that most weighted blanket sellers offer multiple variations to the weight of the blanket.
If you’re unsure of what to buy, and where, we’ve formed a handy guide.
What Is A Weighted Blanket?
A weighted blanket is essentially a throw filled with weights (usually glass beads) evenly distributed to give the effect of a hug. You can buy versions that are single sized, queen sized or king sized, as well as varieties such as woven blankets that look like oversized knitted throws, and even ones infused with silver.
What Is The Benefit Of A Weighted Blanket?
A weighted blanket can be helpful in reducing stress, anxiety and restlessness. The concept is called “deep pressure stimulation” that replicates the “safe” feeling we get when we are hugged. Basically, it’s the benefits of being hugged without, you know, needing someone to hug you.
Many report a reduction in stress levels, a calmed mind and easier sleep. Weighted blankets can also be used on the couch or as a bed covering.
Which Weighted Blanket Should I Buy?
As we said, there are many weighted blanket types in the market today. But we’ve helpfully created this edit of some of our favourites, to help you make a decision.
A quick note about weights – most sites will have an easy guide for you to determine which weight is right for you, but essentially the weight you buy should correspond to your own body weight.
