There are cars. And then there are CARS. The Toyota Kluger Grande is the latter kind. Big. Bolshy. Uncompromising. Clearly, I was judging the book by its cover here. So it was with some trepidation that I approached it for this week’s family car review. Would it be too big? Too stiff? Too heavy? Too much?
This week was school holidays, so it was Hectic, yes, with a capital H. I was organising a picnic with my daughter and her school friends, so having a seven seater Kluger was a bonus – it meant I could bring the kids whose parents were working in our car which is always a nice, feel-good thing to do for other mums.

So how was the Kluger? Check the video to see the full review, but suffice to say I was pleasantly surprised by the way it drove. Full disclosure: it was the top of the range Kluger, which may have helped. But the thing they’ve nailed is that it doesn’t feel like such a big car to drive, as it looks. And if you’re genuinely interested in this car, you’re not buying it for its looks. It’s no Manolo Blahnik. More like a seriously cushioned running shoe. Functional and practical, it’ll help you get from A to B comfortably and without injury. It ain’t the looker in the family. But the kids loved it because it has a rear entertainment screen. Need I say more?
