Author of The Handmaid’s Tale, Margaret Atwood, has announced that there will be a sequel to her groundbreaking dystopian novel, and it will arrive as soon as 2019.
Atwood announced the exciting news on her Twitter account as well as revealing its title and that The Testament will take place 15 years after the events of her 1985 novel.
The legendary author tweeted a 30-second video along with the caption, “Yes indeed to those who asked: I’m writing a sequel to The #HandmaidsTale. #TheTestaments is set 15 years after Offred’s final scene and is narrated by three female characters. It will be published in Sept 2019. More details: http://smarturl.it/TestamentsMA”
Atwood is keeping mum as far as plot is concerned and no one yet knows if the book will continue to follow the story Offred, but fans are fairly confident that the sequel won’t follow on from the television series.
We cannot wait to get our hands on The Testament come September!
