Another recasting for season three of The Crown has been announced, and it’s a face you’ll definitely know! Tobias Menzies is set to play Prince Philip in season’s three and four of the hit Netflix series.
You’ll remember him as Edmure Tully on Game of Thrones and from playing series’ baddie Johnathan Randall in the popular Outlander series.
Though there has been much controversy around the cast shakeup, the series has always planned to recast every two seasons to ensure that the actors match the age of the royal family member they’re playing.
Matt Smith previously played Prince Phillip throughout 1947 to 1964, when Phillip was in his thirties and forties.
The announcement of Menzies’ casting completes the lead character recast. Olivia Colman has been confirmed as replacing Claire Foy as Queen Elizabeth and Helena Bonham Carter is set to replace Vanessa Kirby as Princess Margaret.
Though we’re shaken by the departure of all our favourites (we’re not crying, you’re crying), we’re eagerly awaiting more royal madness in season three.
