Our First Look At Elizabeth Debicki As Princess Diana In ‘The Crown’ Is Finally Here, And Yes, It’s Uncanny

Consider us convinced

Each year, with the impending new season of The Crown on its way, Netflix chooses to whet our appetites by releasing imagery of its cast taking on the new generation of the beloved Royal figures.

And this time around, it seems to be no different.

Ahead of its final fifth and sixth seasons, the streaming giant has released the first look at Australia’s own Elizabeth Debicki as Princess Diana, and quite honestly, their similarities are hard to miss. Joining Debicki, Netflix has also released imagery of Dominic West taking on Prince Charles, and in what seems to be a decent amount of prosthetic makeup.

Of course, the pair aren’t typically the doppelgängers of Diana and Charles—Debicki comes in at six-foot-three, while Diana was five-foot-ten—but the impressive makeup and hair styling certainly has us fooled.

The fifth and latest season of The Crown follows season four, which focused on the start of the 1990s where Diana and Charles’ marriage was breaking down, but the late Princess’ public favour was at an all-time high.

Last season, Emma Corrin and Josh O’Connor took on the roles of Diana and Charles, before being replaced by Debicki and West as their characters entered a new chapter in their lives.

While the streaming giant is yet to reveal exactly what the fifth season will entail, given that the show is based on a very public history of the royal family, it seems like a no-brainer that it’s set to focus on Diana and Charles’ bitter divorce.

But of course, Debicki and West aren’t the only new character reveals that Netflix has gifted fans with. At the end of July, they shared the first image of Imelda Staunton (AKA Harry Potter‘s Professor Umbridge) as Queen Elizabeth II herself.

As for the rest of the star-studded cast, not much else is known other than the fact that Lesley Manville as Princess Margaret will be joining the group.

Fans of the dramatic royal retelling will need to practice patience since the next season isn’t set to premiere until 2022 due to COVID-19 production delays.

In the meantime, we strongly advise you head back down memory lane and binge-watch the first four seasons of The Crown on Netflix here—we certainly will be.
