Taylor Swift chose her Grammy Award Acceptance speech to announce some exciting news—she’s releasing a new album.
Taking to the stage at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards to accept an award for the Best Pop Vocal Album, Swift announced she was released a new album titled The Tortured Poet’s Department.
The announcement was followed by a Instagram post, featuring the album cover alongside the caption “All’s fair in love and poetry… New album THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT. Out April 19.”
Swift’s new album will be her 11th original album and 15th album including the ‘Taylor’s Version’ projects.
The ‘Taylor’s Version’ albums were the singer’s attempt to reclaim authority over music, after the rights to six of her albums were sold to a private equity firm for millions of dollars.
Prior to Swift’s announcement, fans had been speculating that the star’s black and white Grammy’s outfit, along with her new black and white profile picture on Instagram, were signs the singer would be re-releasing Reputation in the same way she did with Fearless, Red, Speak Now and 1989.
Reputation and her debut album, Taylor Swift, are the only albums left to receive the ‘Taylor’s Version’ treatment.
While Swifts fans might have suspected some sort of announcement was coming, we can safely say that a whole new original album surpassed all of our expectations.
Just as we thought we wouldn’t be getting any more information before April 19, Swift posted a second teaser of her album to Instagram.
This time, the post gave us a clue about the album’s tracks and the artists who will be featured on it.
One of the songs, titled ‘So Long, London’ seems to be a reference to Swift’s ex-boyfriend Joe Alwyn, who is from London. Fans also suspect other tracks, including ‘The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived,’ ‘I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can),’ ‘loml,’ ‘But Daddy I Love Him,’ ‘My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys,’ and ‘I Can Do It With a Broken Heart,’ are also about Alwyn.
A couple of songs also feature other artists, with one called ‘Fortnight’ featuring Post Malone and another called ‘Florida’ featuring Florence + the Machine.
At this stage, we still don’t know much else about the upcoming tracks but based on the black and white album cover and title, we’re expecting a moodier, darker vibe.
April 19 can’t come any sooner.
