When the news broke that pop superstar Taylor Swift was dating the 1975’s front man Matty Healy, the internet did not believe what it was hearing.
But it seems the rumours might be true as Healy himself confirms fans suspicions.
TikTok user @eleanorazefirst revealed, in a video posted to TikTok, that she and other fans spoke to Healy at Swift’s Eras show on Saturday—the same show where Healy was filmed hanging out with Swift’s parents.
When the fans asked Healy if he was dating Swift, Healy said yes.
“Taylor’s parents omggg,” the TikTok user captioned her video. “Then Matty Healy [sic] he said yes when we asked if they were dating.”
More information was revealed in a second TikTok video, posted by the same user.
“So basically it was just her mom and her dad originally. And I want to say, it was the sweetest thing. During ‘Marjorie,’ her mom was crying and everything like that. And I didn’t want to record because that would be like kind of bad, that’s not a good thing. And then Matt came, and everyone started freaking out. Then the girls next to me were actually the ones who were like, ‘Matt, blink twice if you and Taylor are dating,’ and he goes like…” the user says, while blinking her eyes and nodding.
“Like, he does that, and I was like, ‘What?! You are?!’ and he nods.” She added that, “Oh, I thought it was so cute. Him and her dad were whispering to each other the entire concert and like talking, it was so nice.”
Rumours of the possible couple have been circulating over the past few weeks, with the news being especially controversial, given Swift’s recent split from partner of six years, Joe Alwyn.
Previously, a source that revealed the potential connection between Swift and Healy to The Sun was only partially right in saying that she would reveal her relationship at the show. While no-such admission was made, Healy was present at Swift’s Nashville show.
The singer was spotted in Swift’s VIP area—usually reserved for friends, family and loved ones—adding fuel to the fire that the two may be boyfriend and girlfriend.
Healy cut an understated figure, in a flannel shirt (Swifties know how she feels about flannel!), black t-shirt and jeans.
The 1975 have been on tour since late last year, with Healy currently on a small hiatus between his last show on May 4 in the Philippines, and next show on June 2 in Denmark. It appears he’s chosen to take that time out in the US, as opposed to his home in the United Kingdom.
Fans said that Healy performed their song, ‘She’s American’ at the last show, which many believe may have been a nod to the Pennsylvania born mega star.
It is being alleged that Swift and Healy were set up by her beloved music producer and friend Jack Antonoff. The two are actually the same age, having both been born in 1989, although Healy in April and Swift in December.
While the romance may have been a bit of a shock to fans, Swift and Healy have actually been in very similar circles over the years, with dating rumours flying in 2014 and 2016, suggesting the two could me more than friends.
Interestingly, Swift chose Speak Now banger ‘Sparks Fly’ to play at the tour while Matty was in the audience. Could it be a nod to their budding romance? Only time will tell.
