For 16 years, fans of The Devil Wears Prada have searched high and low for a film or television series that even slightly compares to the legendary tale of Andy Sachs and Miranda Priestly.
And now, we might have finally found it—but there’s a twist. Swimming With Sharks is an upcoming drama series starring Mad Men’s Kiernan Shipka and Inglorious Basterds‘ Diane Krudger set to spin a whole new light on cut-throat workplaces, ambitious colleagues and, naturally, extremely watchable fashion.
The series, which is actually a gender-swapped adaptation of the 1994 psychological drama film starring Kevin Spacey and Frank Whaley, follows Lou Simms, a determined intern at a major film production company helmed by cut-throat CEO, Joyce Holt. Her colleagues are manipulative and scheming, but they’re yet to realise that Lou is poised to out-smart them all—and she’ll go to shocking lengths to do it.
With its release date fast approaching, your next binge-watch is undoubtedly sorted—the gripping trailer alone will tell you that much.
Here, everything we know about the upcoming series.
What is the Swimming With Sharks remake about?
The series revolves around ambitious young intern, Lou Simms, who is determined to succeed at the prestigious film studio Fountain Pictures, which ruled by renowned CEO, Joyce Holt.
But the notoriously hard-to-please boss has harboured an environment where interns are detrimentally overworked, even to the extent that one of them literally dies.
Colleagues pin the premature death on stress and burnout from the toxic culture Holt has created, but is that really all there is to it, or is Lou’s subsequent promotion a little too convenient?
See a sneak peek of the series in the trailer below.
Who is in the cast of Swimming With Sharks?
Kiernan Shipka (of Mad Men and The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina fame) stars as Lou Simms, while Hollywood great Diane Krudger (Troy, Inglorious Basterds and National Treasure) plays cut throat (yet fashion-forward) boss Joyce Holt—yes, there’s a red-soled Christian Louboutin heel reference in the trailer.
The Hunger Games‘ Donald Sutherland plays Redmond, while 13 Reasons Why and Riverdale star Ross Butler plays Alex.
Gerardo Celasco (Next, Vengeance) rounds out the cast alongside Erika Alexander (Get Out, Wu-Tang: An American Saga) and Thomas Dekker (My Sister’s Keeper, The Secret Circle) as Miles, Meredith and Travis, respectively.
