Below, Lizzie’s best tips.
BYO towel, always. When you’re in a yoga class and the teacher tells you to rest your forehead on the *rented* mat, not only have many-a-feet been where you’re resting but also loads of spot causing grime.” Try to only allow your *clean* towel to touch your face rather than the mat, and avoid touching your face with your hands too.
Wash your face pre and post work out. Having clean skin whilst you workout will help avoid your open pores getting clogged with makeup, suncream and sebum. Wash your face straight after and finish with a splash of cold water to bring down redness and help close your pores before you apply any products. If you tend to get spots on your chest and back, carry with you a pack of micellar water wipes so you can remove the sweat and cool you down; heat and humidity = bacteria heaven.
Go light. Use skincare products free from pesticides, bleaching, colouring and fragrances to avoid added irritation. RosehipPLUS day cream is super lightweight so won’t clog your pores, even when you sweat.
Tie your hair up! Especially if you have a fringe. Oily stands against your face can lead to breakouts, even more so if you have any products in it- dry shampoo we’re talking to you. When you’re working out regularly, unfortunately, you have to wash your hair more frequently as the excess sweat and oil build-up can cause spots in your hairline and where your hair rests.
Workout first thing. Your face is still make up free and if you’re up early enough, you can fit in a shower before you seize the day! Shower tip: wash your face after washing your hair to make sure no suds or soap scum are left lingering.
