It’s been mere hours since the first official images of Kristen Stewart as Princess Diana in the Spencer official poster took over the internet. And now, fans have been treated to the film’s first trailer and it looks as incredible as we’d hoped.
In the first imagery that came out on August 26, production company, Neon, shared a striking image of Stewart in character, seemingly distraught with her head bowed and her body slumped on the floor.
Sporting a Diana-inspired wardrobe, Stewart wears a stunning white gown, whose strapless design features cool gold embroidery and a tulle fringe, and even includes a glimpse of a pearl necklace around her neck.
In the film, Stewart plays the beloved Princess of Wales, and the biopic will span just three days of Diana’s life in the early 90s. Focusing on the moments she realised that her marriage to Prince Charles was failing, it offers merely a snapshot into what led the late Lady Di into one of the most monumental moments in British royal history.
As per the trailer, that was released overnight on August 27, the one-minute sneak peek shows the disturbances in the royal family. Set to the soundtrack of an eerie rendition of Lou Reed’s 1972 classic “Perfect Day”, the clip depicts Diana’s spiral within the crown, all while not saying all that much.
With dramatic close-ups, running montages and merely two words muttered in its final seconds, it already looks as if the American actress has nailed Diana’s mannerisms, body language, and yes, even her voice—for the 0.5 seconds that we get to hear it.
Back in 2020, Stewart opened up about what it was like becoming Diana and her experience filming the three days in Diana’s life, at the Sandringham estate during Christmas in the ’90s.
“It’s this really poetic, internal imagining of what that might have felt like, rather than giving new information,” she told Jimmy Kimmel Live, adding how difficult it was to film the days leading up to her divorce from Prince Charles. “It’s hard not to feel protective over her. She was so young… everyone’s perspective is different, and there’s no way to get everything right… what is fact in relation to personal experience.”
Stewart’s rendition of Princess Diana in the film, Spencer, is set to be released on November 5, 2021.
