When one thinks of new film Spencer, you’d immediately associate it with lead actor Kristen Stewart, who plays the late Princess Diana.
The movie has quickly garnered raving reviews from critics, and it was a standout star at the Venice Film Festival, even receiving a standing ovation from the prestigious festival’s audiences.
Ever since the initial casting of Kristen Stewart as the late Princess, the world waited with baited breath to see the actor’s transformation into the woman who became known as the “People’s Princess”.
Of course, the first movie stills and trailer proved what we’d hoped for—Stewart made a convincing case as the iconic royal (British accent and all). But the film’s ensemble cast has us just as impressed with the depiction of the royal family.
Here, we meet the actors starring in Spencer, and we uncover where you’ve seen them before.
Kristen Stewart as Princess Diana
Stewart first rose to fame when she starred as Bella in the Twilight film franchise back in the late noughties. But it’s her work in several major productions she’s since starred in that have really stood out.
Among them, Still Alice where Stewart played Lydia Howland, Happiest Season where she played Abby Holland and in 2019, she starred in the Charlie’s Angels reboot film.
The 31-year-old has also won a BAFTA and a Screen Actors Guild Award for her work.
Jack Farthing as Prince Charles
Jack is a British actor who is relatively new to the scene. He has a smattering of productions to his name including Netflix’s Love Wedding Repeat and Maggie Gyllenhaal’s directorial debut, The Lost Daughter.
Timothy Spall as Equerry Major Alistair Gregory
Timothy Spall is a stalwart in the British acting ensemble having starred in a series of major films including Sweeney Todd, The Damned United and he played villain Peter Pettigrew in the Harry Potter films.
Sean Harris as Darren McGrady, the Royal Head Chef
British actor and writer Sean Harris has been in the entertainment industry for several decades, and is known for his roles in Mission: Impossible and The King.
Sally Hawkins as Royal Dresser Maggie
Sally is a British actor known well for her roles across both television and films. She starred in The Shape Of Water for which she earned an Oscar nomination, as well as the Paddington films, and Godzilla.
In television, she’s appeared in several BBC adaptations including Persuasion and Fingersmith.
Stella Gonnet as Queen Elizabeth II
Scottish actor Stella is another BBC stalwart, having previously appeared in dramas The House Of Elliot and Holby City.
Richard Sammel as Prince Philip
Richard Sammel is a German actor who previously appeared in major television series, The Strain.
He’s also starred in a slew of other films including The Confessions, Gate To Heaven and The Delegation.
Jack Nielen as Prince William
11-year-old Jack makes his film debut in Spencer, and with the reception it’s already recieved, we’ve no doubt this is just the beginning for him.
Freddie Spry as Prince Harry
Freddie is a 10-year-old British actor who is also just getting started. Apart from Spencer, he’s made a small guest appearance on Lego Masters UK.
Olga Hellsing as Sarah Ferguson
Olga is fresh faced in the acting industry, with Spencer marking her first ever project in film. One thing is for sure: This won’t be her only production.
Niklas Kohrt as Prince Andrew
German actor Niklas has starred in several productions from his home country, with with Spencer being one of his first projects performed entirely in English.
There’s no denying his talent—he’s also active in the theatre space, having performed in a number of on-stage productions since 2004.
