UK based brand Thomson & Scott has released the worldโ€™s first โ€˜skinny proseccoโ€™, and it claims to have just 67 calories (less than half an egg) and 7 grams of sugar per bottle.

โ€œWith so many other food and drink products cutting their sugar content; why shouldnโ€™t champagne too?,โ€ Amanda Thompson told The Telegraph

The Telegraph asked wine expert Victoria Moore to break down exactly how much better off you would be drinking the skinny version over the real deal.

โ€œBrut champagne must by law contain no more than 12g of sugar per litre โ€“ same for Brut prosecco โ€“ and most of the big champagne brands contain less than that.

โ€œFor example, Veuve Clicquot orange label has about 8g per litre, so if you were to drink a whole litre of the Veuve rather than the โ€˜skinny proseccoโ€™, youโ€™d only be consuming one whole extra gram of sugar.

โ€œYouโ€™d also have to drink a whole litre of the โ€˜skinny proseccoโ€™ to save 5g of sugar against a normal Brut prosecco which is about 18 calories โ€“ probably the same as a Ryvita.โ€

While Skinny Prosecco isnโ€™t available here in Australia just yet, the company has plans to expand. So in the meantime w guess weโ€™ll just have to stick to real stuff.

Always remember to drink responsibly!
