48 Hours In The Shoalhaven Region: Our Edit For Your Next Weekender

Beaches and wineries? We're sold.

When it comes to beautiful beaches, NSWโ€™s Shoalhaven region has them in abundance. But the sleepy beach towns and clear, turquoise waters arenโ€™t the only drawcards for the region โ€“ itโ€™s rich in wineries, delicious food, and shopping, too.

Itโ€™s certainly time to start thinking about your next weekender, and if youโ€™re a foodie or love a lazy beach day, Shoalhaven is worth considering. We spent a weekend in the region and have selected our picks for the perfect mini break.

STAY: Paperbark Camp

Paperbark Camp

Tucked away in dense bushland, Paperbark Camp feels like itโ€™s in the middle of nowhere โ€“ in the best way. Youโ€™ll wake to the sound of birds, fall asleep as native animals rustle in the bushes, and feel totally rejuvenated from being just a little off-grid.

The camp has multiple glamping tent options, and while you wonโ€™t have wifi or charging stations in your rooms, the luxe restaurant and lounge area will have you connected to the outside world.

Eat: Bangalay Dining

Bangalay

Bangalay Villas opened only a couple of years ago in Shoalhaven Heads, but have already caused waves in the tourism industry. The villas themselves are gorgeous for a stay (and youโ€™ll be super close to Berry, another great town in the area) but if you canโ€™t stay there, definitely visit the restaurant on site.

Expect fresh seafood, delicious desserts and fine dining in a relaxed atmosphere.

Do: Wine Knot Tours

Love a good winery but hate the stress of finding and booking tastings? Book in a tour of the Shoalheaven region with Wine Knot Tours โ€“ they know all the best people at all the best wineries and will take you to each in a comfortable minibus, so you can have the best winery-filled day ever โ€“ without having to worry about alcohol intake.

Visit: The Beaches

Look, we wanted to pick one but honestly there are too many to choose from. Our advice? Spend a day driving from beach to beach โ€“ even in winter, the Shoalhaven region has beautiful sandy shores to walk along. The best part? Many are dog friendly โ€“ try Nelsons Beach if youโ€™ve brought your pup.
