Brace yourselves, because there’s a new drama, thriller in town and our guess is you’re going to love it even more than The Sinner.
Based off the first novel by Gone Girl author Gillian Flynn and backed by Big Little Lies’ director Jean-Marc Vallée – not to mention, the star power of multiple-Oscar nominee Amy Adams – Sharp Objects is a recipe for success.
And, with all the hype surrounding the show already, it’s clear the series is surpassing all expectations.
In her first small-screen role, Adams plays Camille Preaker, a reporter who returns to her small hometown to investigate the murder of two girls.
But it’s quickly clear, Camille – who happens to be a self-mutilating, sex-addicted, alcoholic – is battling her own demons and, upon returning home, must confront the ghosts in her relationships with her domineering mother (Patricia Clarkson) and estranged half-sister (Eliza Scanlen).
“Most people don’t show their dark side,” Adams says, explaining why she was attracted to the role.
“There’s something freeing about playing somebody who’s a mess. But the depth of pain that she’s constantly in is tricky. I felt like I had to not back away from it because so many people have a personal experience with the book.”
With an 8.3 star rating on IMDB – for reference, even Game of Thrones hasn’t hit 10 – and comparisons to Big Little Lies (The Guardian dubbed it, “much better than that”), we recommend you cancel those weekend plans and add Sharp Objects to your must-watch list, immediately.
Sharp Objects is airing on Foxtel’s Showcase.
