Just when we thought things couldn’t get more exciting for Sam Kerr & Kristie Mewis following their engagement news, the couple have revealed they’re expecting their first child.
Taking to Instagram to announce the news, the couple shared a series of black and white snaps showing off Kristie’s belly and their sonogram.
“Mewis-Kerr baby coming 2025!” Sam captioned the announcement post.

Rumours of an engagement between the soccer stars started whirling when eagle-eyed fans spotted a rock on Kritie’s ring finger in a video posted by her football club, NJ/NY Gotham FC.
“Girl casually wore an engagement ring and thought we wouldn’t notice,” one fan commented before another added: “Everyone just watching Kristie’s left hand this whole video.”
Despite going to great lengths to keep the happy news under wraps, Mewis accidentally let slip they’d become engaged to People, telling them her fiancée has “just been everything” to her.
A week later fans finally got the official announcement they’d been waiting for when the couple shared photos from the moment Sam proposed, caption the post: “September 1st, 2023 🤍”

Sam Kerr and Kristie Mewis first confirmed their relationship via a candid Instagram, after they spraked romance rumours on the pitch of their Olympics soccer match.
Australian Matildas star Kerr was seen being embraced by US player Mewis following Australia’s heartbreaking bronze medal loss. The moment came after a whirlwind two weeks at the Tokyo Olympics, where the players eventually went head to head for their respective countries in the bronze medal match, with the US beating the Matildas by a one point margin—4-3.
The sweet and consoling hug the pair shared in front of the world quickly became the backdrop to what is clearly a beautiful love story between the two talented athletes.
And barely a week later, Kerr confirmed what we’d all hoped with a cute Instagram update featuring a polaroid snap of her and Mewis kissing.
The 27-year-old simply added a love heart emoji and tagged Mewis in the picture.
The US soccer star also shared an Instagram update to her story, showing her and Sam in a selfie together. Later, she shared several snaps from their accomodation in Miami.
With their romance finally confirmed, Mewis spoke to Gaffer about going public with their relationship.
“I think it’s endearing to share your life with other people, because I think if they can relate to you and you can maybe change their lives, I think it’s important, especially with our platform, to share.”
“We didn’t share it for ages, then it just got too hard to hide it… We’re not private people. I like sharing my story. I like sharing who I am outside of football. Football is 5% of my life,” added Kerr.
In the months prior, Kerr and her new love Mewis hinted at a romance blooming with several subtle clues. Super sleuth fans noticed several flirty Instagram comments, one where the US soccer player quipped at Kerr’s shirt number.
“Glad to see you’re committing to your new number,” she wrote next to a picture posted by Sam.
Without missing a beat, Sam replied: “Committing to you more then 2.”
How Did Sam Kerr & Kristie Mewis Meet?
Kerr and Mewis first met on the field during a US National Women’s Soccer League tournament match in 2019, and our Matildas’ capitan revealed to Gaffer, it was quite the first impression.
“I thought her team was crazy. When I play I’m such a s*** stirrer and she was getting so angry… We always talked about this one time where she tried to get the ball. It was a free kick for her team. She put the ball down, and I kicked it away and was like ‘Really?’” she told the publication.
On field tensions aside, a romance quickly blossomed when the duo connected via Instagram. Keeping in contact throughout the pandemic, Kerr and Mewis ultimately decided to meet up, their first date leading to two weeks isolating together.
“It was about three or four months until we could hang out in person. The first time we ever met there was quarantine, so we had to spend two weeks together the first time we met. I was thinking if I don’t like her, this is going to be awkward,” said Kerr.
