Motherhood, Myths, and Choices: How a New Podcast Is Redefining Parenthood

Breaking the silence

The decision to become a parent is one of the most personal – and often, most pressure-laden – choices a person can make. In a world saturated with opinions and expectations, Beyond Expectations, a new podcast from ELLE Australia in partnership with prenatal multivitamin brand Elevit, offers a welcome reprieve from the noise.

The eight-part series takes an unvarnished look at fertility, pregnancy, and the broader landscape of modern motherhood. With a tone that’s equal parts compassionate and candid, the podcast aims to serve anyone along the spectrum – from those actively trying to conceive to those unsure if parenthood is even the right path.

Each weekly episode features conversations with women who speak from lived experience or professional expertise. What unites them is a shared willingness to discuss the struggle, the juggle and the joy of navigating reproductive choices today.

The series opens with Laura Henshaw, co-founder of the wellness app KIC, who unpacks her own uncertainty around motherhood in a conversation that may resonate with many listeners: “How do I know if I want to have a baby?” she asks.

Future episodes feature guests like Ellidy Pullin, co-host of the Darling, Shine! podcast, who became a solo parent after the sudden death of her partner, and Lyndi Cohen, a nutritionist and author who speaks openly about the emotional and physical demands placed on women’s bodies before, during, and after pregnancy.

Beyond Expectations highlights the diversity of paths to (and away from) parenthood. From egg freezing to co-parenting, solo parenting to postpartum realities, the podcast underscores that no two journeys look the same – and that’s exactly the point.

New episodes of Beyond Expectations drop every Friday and are available on Apple Podcasts and Spotify, where video versions of the interviews are also available.
