This year’s Married At First Sight (MAFS) cast list has already seen its fair share of couple casualties, but when it comes to intruders Beth and Teejay, it’s been smooth sailing, so far.
The Lancashire-born Beth decided to give love a chance this year, after experiencing much of her adult life sans romantic partner. Keen to see if the experts could help reignite her love life, the 28-year-old asked for a partner who would make her laugh and allow her true self to shine.
Enter 28-year-old Teejay, a business development manager from Queensland who, having been in two long-term relationships previously, was ready to find the real deal. Given that his ideal match was someone that “makes him laugh yet fills him with emotional and mental stimulation,” the experts were gifted with an on-paper pair that seemed suitably matched.
From the get-go, it was clear their hunch was correct, with Beth becoming instantly smitten with her new beau. “[Teejay’s] very fit, very fit… Can’t wait to kiss him again; a big snog,” Beth shared with producers immediately following the wedding.
But it wasn’t just the blushing bride that shared her post-ceremony bliss. Teejay was quick to announce, “she’s beautiful… I definitely got that spark.”
Their first few commitment ceremonies have been a positive step in the right direction, with the couple obviously sharing a palpable chemistry that pushed them through to the next stage of the experiment.
Are Beth & Teejay Still A Couple After MAFS?
Week after week, these two seemed like they were heading for success, that was until some uncomfortable homestay week moments appeared to threaten their unity.
Cracks started forming when Teejay and Beth appeared to be tracking in two different directions – a turn of events that Beth apparently didn’t see coming.
Attempting to solicit a positive response from her husband, Beth asked Teejay about the sudden shift, and let’s just say the response wasn’t up to scratch for Beth – or anyone invested in a relationship to be honest.
“Homestays were a little bit… much,” he told her before this week’s dinner party. “But, if that’s where we are, that’s where we are. It’s not like we hate each other or anything.”
Oh good! Way to give a girl some hope!
Despite their dying flame, the pair opted to present a united front, travelling to the group activity together while remaining, mostly, silent. Such fun!
After another chaotic round of utterly perplexing back and forth between Jacqui and Ryan, it was time to hear from Beth, and she did not hold back.
She opened up about Teejay telling her family and friends that he was still grappling with his feelings, and wasn’t sure he saw a future with Beth. Seeing as she had previously shared that she and Teejay had been intimate following their last commitment ceremony, it was clear she’d felt blindsided by his sudden admission.
He said he felt “pushed into a corner” during Homestays, but Beth maintained she was only asking him simple questions.
We all know what’s happening here, but it doesn’t make it any easier to watch.
While we haven’t got the official word that these two are over, the jilted bride isn’t holding back in her public appearances.
“Yeah, now I look back, there were quite a few moments where I kind of felt like he maybe wasn’t into me, but I just ignored it,’ she told The Daily Mail.
“He was really good at saying the right things, but sometimes his actions would prove otherwise.
“I kind of just swept it all under the rug. I should have really woken up and realised what the f*** was going on.”
Seeing as Teejay told us he feels “claustrophobic” having to answer basic yes or no questions, it might be even tougher for him to express whether he wants to say, or leave, at this week’s commitment ceremony.
Here’s hoping someone from production can help him form the words so that Beth can be released from her misery. But, who knows – we could be in for a sudden 180? We’ll just have to stay tuned to find out one way or another.
