The actor has had a few high-profile relationships since finding fame – some more public than others. From his early years in the limelight to now, here’s everything we know about Glen Powell’s girlfriend history.
Nina Dobrev: January 2017 – November 2017
Then couple Powell and Vampire Diaries star, Nina Dobrev were rumoured to be together as far back as 2016, but weren’t officially considered an item until early 2017, when Nina posted a recap of her New Year’s Eve celebrations in Texas – which appeared to be a subtle launch as Glen Powell’s girlfriend.
The caption read: “New Years Got Rowdy. Texas Style” and featured a collection of polaroids – two of which captured Texas native, Glenn Powell.
According to sources, the couple had been casually dating for several months prior to becoming Instagram official. “They were friends and it turned into something more a little while ago.”
Sadly, the relationship wasn’t one for the record books, as just a year later the pair called things off, citing conflicting schedules as the reason for the split.
Though things may have fizzled out in a romantic sense, the two still managed to stay in touch, reuniting on the red carpet for Powell’s Top Gun: Maverick premiere.
Renee Bargh: 2018
Australian entertainment reporter and television host Renee Bargh was linked to Glen Powell around a year after he and Dobrev broke up.
The low-key relationship was seemingly kept under wraps for roughly six months before the tabloids found out – after images posted to Powell’s Instagram showed the couple celebrating his 30th birthday together.
The guest list for the actor’s ’80s themed party also included ex-girlfriend Nina Dobrev, as well as Rachel Bilson, John Stamos and Lori Loughlin.
While neither spoke about the relationship publicly, we do know things were over by the time Bargh revealed she was single and looking for a “good Aussie boy,” in a November 2019 interview with Daily Mail.
Gigi Paris: Early 2020 – April 2023
The Twisters star reportedly began dating model Gigi Paris in early 2020, when the pair were spotted on holiday in Mexico.
As Powell’s longest running relationship, he and Paris made plenty of public appearances together, including walking the red carpet on multiple stops along the actor’s press tour for his breakout role in Top Gun: Maverick.
In an interview with People, Powell spoke about the importance of his girlfriend’s support at the time of the film’s release.
“My family and my girlfriend, they know how much this movie means to me and how much the cast means to me,” he says.
“Especially after we didn’t know if we were going to get to have a premiere or put it out in theatres, to have that celebration together, especially with my family who sacrificed so much for me to even pursue this dream, [was] incredible.”
As Top Gun continued to break box office records and Powell’s star power became more in-demand than ever, the pair were pulled in opposite directions more frequently than either of them had wished.
They do say ‘distance makes the heart grow fonder’ but the opposite seemed to be the case for Powell and Paris, who decided to part ways after she came to visit him in Australia on the set of Anyone But You.
In April 2023 a source confirmed to People that the couple had broken up for good, after apparently being off and on again for a while.
“They had been on the rocks since Top Gun came out. Gigi was never happy with the long-distance filming, and when she came to Australia they both decided to break up for good.”
At the time of the breakup, Glen Powell and actress Sydney Sweeney – who were co-stars in the enemy-to-lovers film – were rumoured to be taking their on screen chemistry off script. And although both parties denied reports, their flirty promo tour for the film certainly didn’t help their cause.
And, in case there was any doubt surrounding the actor’s relationship status after that, the model confirmed that she was no longer Glen Powell’s girlfriend, after posting a video on Instagram captioned: “Know your worth & onto the next”.
What Happened Between Sydney Sweeney & Glen Powell?
Anyone with eyes and a pulse would agree that Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell had the makings of a very cute couple after Anyone But You wrapped, but sadly for fans of their on-screen romance, it was not to be. Not least because Sweeney was – and still is – engaged to her fiancé Jonathan Davino, but also because the flirt-filled press tour was actually a genius marketing move by none other than Sweeney herself.
In an interview with Business Insider, Powell admitted as much, saying that despite having “authentic chemistry” with Sweeney, the actors were very much playing into the narrative to promote the film.
“I’ll pretty much give Sydney all the credit for this,” Powell told Business Insider. “I don’t have the mental capacity to pull anything like this off, but she’s very smart. She’s very smart. I had such a wonderful journey with her on this thing.”
“But in terms of actual dating and actually being together?” he continues, laughing at the thought of Sweeney being labelled as Glen Powell’s girlfriend before revealing that playing the role was tougher than he’d anticipated.
“The only reason it made things harder for me to lean into that stuff was that I was going through a very real breakup amidst a promotional tour.
“I was with someone that I really loved and cared about and was trying to kind of make sense of a lot of stuff.”
“It was a lot easier for Sydney to lean into something like that because she’s in a very committed and wonderful relationship and she’s very happy,” he says referring to Sweeney’s relationship with Davino. “So it was a little harder for me.”
