While we may have first met her as Chrishell Hartley, before getting reacquainted with Chrishell Stause, it seems the popular Selling Sunset cast member actually has quite backstory behind her first name.
Not long after she joined the cast of Selling Sunset, the actress and real estate agent spoke about the interesting origins behind her unique moniker.
As she explained back in season one of the show (we must have been too deep in the Selling Sunset memes, slash, a real estate coma, to notice), her parents made up the name as an homage to the moment in which she was born.
As it turns out, her mother went into labour with her at a Shell gas station in her home state of Kentucky, and an attendant by the name of ‘Chris’ helped deliver the baby.
Chris. Shell. Chri-shell. BOOM.
But wait, there’s more. Chrishell Stause is not even her full legal name, in fact, Chrishell is her middle name.
Her full legal birth name is: Terrina Chrishell Stause.
Of course, she is an actress who’s worked for over a decade in TV soaps like Days of Our Lives and The Young and The Restless before Selling Sunset, so it’s hardly surprising that she opted for a stage name, as many celebrities do.
As for her last name (spoiler alert!), many who followed the show will know that Chrishell was previously married to This Is Us star Justin Hartley, who filed for divorce (and notified Chrishell via text) in late 2019, citing “irreconcilable differences”.
After they married in 2017, she added his last name to her own and following their split, and in July 2020 requested to have her maiden name restored as part of the divorce proceedings.
