Aussie actress, model, DJ and recording artist, Ruby Rose, has been cast in the ultimate ass-kicking role as DC superhero Batwoman, in a series currently being developed around the character by The CW.
“Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, she soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence,” is how this crime-fighting superhero will roll, according to Variety.
However, as is the case with every superhero in the history of superheroes, Batwoman will have to fight off her own personal demons before she can fight the city’s criminal element.
The CW currently has a slew of DC superhero shows on their slate, nicknamed the ‘Arrowverse’, which includes The Flash, Arrow, Black Lightning and Supergirl and 32-year-old Ruby Rose is set to debut as Batwoman during The CW’s Arrowverse crossover event in December this year.
The Orange Is the New Black star is openly gay and according to The Hollywood Reporter, “Rose’s casting comes after the network made it a priority to cast an openly gay actress to take on the role,” as the out-and-proud lesbian Kate Kane/Batwoman.
Penning the script is The Vampire Dairies’ alum Caroline Dries and if it gets picked up to series, the Batwoman series is scheduled to hit our TV screens during the 2019-2020 TV season.
