Ruby Rose Deletes Twitter Following ‘Batwoman’ Backlash

'For the past 5 years had to deal with 'she's too gay' how do y'all flip it like that?'

Ruby Rose has deleted her Twitter account following backlash over the announcement that she will play the first lesbian superhero in a Batwoman TV series.

The Meg star was announced last week to have landed the lead role in the CW series, and the star was so overwhelmed with the news she fought back tears as she opened up about what it meant to her.

“I feel like the reason I get so emotional, growing up watching TV, I never saw somebody on TV that I could identify with, let alone a superhero,” she told Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show.

“I have always had this saying – I mean, not me, Oscar Wilde – which is be yourself because everyone else is taken. So I always live by that motto, and the second motto when I came into the industry was be the person that you needed when you were younger. I feel like one motto led to another.”

However it seems not everyone is happy with the casting, reportedly receiving backlash from trolls for playing a lesbian when “she’s not actually a lesbian”.

Before deleting her account, Ruby reportedly wrote, “Where on earth did ‘Ruby is not a lesbian therefore she can’t be batwoman’ come from – has to be the funniest most ridiculous thing I’ve ever read. I came out at 12? And have for the past 5 years had to deal with ‘she’s too gay’ how do y’all flip it like that? I didn’t change.”

Ruby’s Instagam account is still active but she has disabled the comment son her latest post.
