We’ve been waiting for this news all our lives… or at least since the second season of Fleabag wrapped—Phoebe Waller-Bridge is writing a brand new series.
Confirmed by Variety in March 2022, the British wordsmith is working on a script for an Amazon original series, and it’s expected to go into production as early as this year.
Details about the show’s plot (and even its genre) are firmly under wraps for the moment, but given how quickly it seems to be moving, we’ll likely not have long to wait for more details.
Waller-Bridge signed an overarching deal with Amazon, which was initially going to include a series adaptation of the Bred Pitt and Angelina Jolie film, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, starring herself and Donald Glover. In 2021, the British writer decided to exit the production.
She was also the brains behind Killing Eve, released in 2018—the show is now in its fourth and final season after enjoying major global success.
To polish off the impressive portfolio, Waller-Bridge worked on the latest James Bond film, No Time To Die. All those BAFTA, Emmy’s and Critics Choice Award’s really do make sense.
After the second season of Fleabag came to a close in 2018, fans begged for a third instalment, but Waller-Bridge was firm in her decision to leave it as is.
“I feel like it’s done, but I do have a fantasy of bringing her back when I’m, like, 45 or 50,” she told media.
But whether she ever revisits it or not, the 36-year-old is content with how it came to an end: “To be honest, this just feels like the most beautiful, beautiful way to say goodbye to it, actually. It does feel like the story is complete… It does feel right.”
No matter, more Waller-Bridge content is coming in hot, apparently.
