These Are The Sports We’ll Be Watching During The Paris 2024 Paralympic Games

If you are experiencing adrenaline withdrawals following the Paris 2024 Olympics, never fear. The Paris Paralympic Games have finally kicked off, and we’ll be tuning in between now and September 8th as some of the top athletes in the world compete across 22 sports. 

Competitions officially begin on August 29th, 2024, the day after the Opening Ceremony, and close on September 8th. We’ve rounded up the tournaments to add to your calendar. 

What Sports Are Included In The 2024 Paralympic Games? 

Para Athletics 

The Para Athletics competition will run throughout the games, starting on August 30th and ending on September 8th. It includes track, field and marathon events and will be held at the Stade de France. 

Para Swimming 

Para-swimming starts August 29th and runs until September 7th at the Paris La Défense Arena, the events are spread across morning and evening sessions. 

Wheelchair Basketball 

If you’re a basketball fan you’re in luck. Matches begin on August 29th and games are scheduled throughout the day.

Goal Ball

The goal ball men’s and women’s tournaments start on the 29th of August.

Sitting Volleyball

Sitting Volleyball will take place between the 29th of August and the 7th of September.

Para Swimming

On August 30th, women’s and men’s freestyle, backstroke, butterfly, breaststroke, and freestyle competitions will take place.

Para Taekwondo

Para Taekwondo will take place on the 29th of August.

Wheelchair Tennis

Wheelchair tennis will take place on the 39th of August featuring Men’s and women’s doubles and singles, along with mixed quad doubles.

 Para Badminton

Para Badminton will be running August 29th-September 2.

Boccia

Boccia is a precision ball sport similar to bowls and is exclusive to the Paralympics, with no Olympic counterpart. It’s designed specifically for athletes with disabilities that affect locomotor function and is played on wheelchairs. The Boccia competition runs from August 29th-September 6th.

Archery

We’re obsessed with archery and the archery competition will be held from August 29th, with elimination rounds and finals spreading across multiple days. Incidentally, Australia is set to make history in Paris with the largest archery team in four decades.

Para Powerlifting

Para powerlifting will run from September 4th to September 8th

Cycling (Track and Road)

Track cycling events start on August 29th at the Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines velodrome, while men’s and women’s road cycling will take place on September 4th. 

Football

Paralympics football is played by vision-impaired athletes. The competition will begin on September 1st near the Eiffel Tower, and matches will continue throughout the week. 

Para Rowing 

Para Rowing will take place on August 30th – 1st of September and will feature Women’s Single Sculls and Men’s Single Sculls, followed by Mixed Doubled Sculls and Mixed Coxed Four. If you’re wondering what Mixed Coxed Four is, it is when there are four rowers in a boat!

Para Shooting

Para shooting will run from August 29th to September 5th.

Para Table Tennis

Para table tennis runs from August 29th to September 7th.

Para Equestrian 

Perhaps the most picturesque event on the calendar the Para Equestrian competition, will take place on August 3rd of September, featuring various dressage events at the Gardens of the Château de Versailles. 

Para Triathalon 

The Para Triathalon features swimming, biking and running competitions with different impairment classifications. The race will start on September 1 and end on September 2, beginning in the Seine River at the d’Iéna bridge and continuing through Paris.

Para Canoe 

Para Canoe will occur between September 6th and September 8th and feature sprint races across various classifications at the Vaires-sur-Marne.

Wheelchair Fencing 

Wheelchair fencing starts September 3rd of September and finishes on the 8th of September with finals broken across different weapons categories, including the foil, épée and sabre. Athletes compete in wheelchairs fastened to the floor and the competition is faced paced and thrilling. 

Wheelchair Rugby

Wheelchair rugby runs from August 29th to September 2nd, and yes, Australia is competing.

Para Judo

Para Judo will run between September 5th and 7th and will feature finals across different weight categories.

How To Watch The Paris 2024 Paralympics

Live streaming of the Paris 2024 Paralympics events and matches will be available on 9Now and Stan Sport. The Paris Paralympics will also be broadcast live on the 9Network TV channels. To start watching, users will need to add Stan Sport to their Stan subscriptions.
