This might be the most refreshing opening sentence of any book ever written, “I am a straight, white, middle-class male, who has breathed the untroubled air of privilege all my life.” Get amongst the “water-cooler book” of the #MeToo era. A must-read for all.
THE BRAID by Laetitia Colombani (Pan Macmillan, $24.99)

THE PERFECT WIFE by JP Delaney (Hachette, $32.99)
For fans of Paula Hawkins and Gillian Flynn, comes a new psychological thriller from the pseudonym JP Delaney. It opens with wife and mother Abbie Cullen waking up in hospital five years after a surfing accident. And it ends somewhere totally unpredictable. You’ll want to read it all in one go to find out.
