It seems that audiences can’t get enough prestige mini-series, as evidenced by the recent slew of fan favourites charting their way to streaming success.
From Netflix’s The Perfect Couple to Ryan Murphy’s newly-greenlit American Love Story, all about JFK Jr. and Carolyn Bessette’s tragic romance, bite-sized series are proving to be wildly popular with film buffs and television critics alike – especially, it seems, when they star Nicole Kidman.
It’s no surprise then, that the latest novel to receive its silver screen glow up is set to star the Nine Perfect Strangers actress alongside a stacked cast of Hollywood A-listers.
Here’s everything we know about Rufi Thorpe’s June 2024 novel Margo’s Got Money Troubles and its upcoming adaptation, so far.
Who Has Been Cast In Margo’s Got Money Troubles?
Michelle Pfeiffer has been confirmed to star in the eight-part adaptation of Margo’s Got Money Troubles, alongside Nicole Kidman and Elle Fanning.
Margo’s Got Money Troubles is being adapted by A24 – the powerhouse film studio behind hits like Lady Bird, Everything Everywhere All At Once and Past Lives – for Apple TV+.
The show will also feature executive producer credits for sisters Elle and Dakota Fanning, Nicole Kidman, Michelle Pfeiffer, and the book’s author Rufi Thorpe, alongside showrunner and writer, David E. Kelley – who also happens to be Pfeiffer’s husband of 31 years.
What Is Margo’s Got Money Troubles About?
According to the synopsis of the best-selling novel, Thorpe’s fictional work explores the struggles of a young woman named Margo Millet (played by Elle Fanning), whose sudden pregnancy leads her into the depths of OnlyFans as a way to support herself.
“As the child of a Hooters waitress and an ex-pro wrestler, Margo Millet’s always known she’d have to make it on her own,” reads the synopsis.
“Now, at twenty, Margo is alone with an infant, unemployed, and on the verge of eviction. She needs a cash infusion—fast. When her estranged father, Jinx, shows up on her doorstep and asks to move in with her, she agrees in exchange for help with childcare. Then Margo begins to form a plan: she’ll start an OnlyFans as an experiment, and soon finds herself adapting some of Jinx’s advice from the world of wrestling. Like how to craft a compelling character and make your audience fall in love with you. Before she knows it, she’s turned it into a runaway success. Could this be the answer to all of Margo’s problems, or does internet fame come with too high a price?”
So far, Michelle Pfeiffer has been confirmed to play Shyanne – Margo’s mother with Nicole believed to be playing Margo’s mediator, according to Deadline.
When Will Margo’s Got Money Troubles Be Released?
With production yet to begin, Apple TV+ hasn’t scheduled a release date, but we’ll be sure to keep you updated.
