When marie claire partnered with business-education company Tech Ready Women for a two-day masterclass, our mission was to help women reach their full potential. Below, Co-Founder & CMO of Shop You, Emma Sharley, shares the biggest thing she learnt from launching a successful start-up.
What’s the one piece of advice you would pass on to women thinking about launching a start-up?
When you launch a start-up, be ready to grow exponentially. Prepare by learning as much as you can about your customer, market, competitors, technology and trends relevant to your product/service. Learn from others where you can, and surround yourself with strategic advisors (preferably more than one).
What’s been the biggest learning/takeaway along your business path journey so far?
Hire slow, even though you need someone fast. People are the core of your business, and having the right minds behind your start-up will accelerate the business more than you think.
If you could go back in time what would you do differently?
Building out the technology is a lengthy process, in future I will allow more time.
What are 3 main personality traits a founder of a startup should possess?
Discipline, perseverance and unwavering passion for your product/service.
What’s the one skill you need to be a successful entrepreneur?
Resilience.
