Have you ever witnessed two people in love try to explain what drew them to each other? It’s exceptionally annoying, particularly because they tend to say super vague things like “when you know, you know.” Thanks, that’s…. really helpful.
Michelle Obama, on the other hand, is well-versed in giving relationship advice (she recently launched an entire podcast series devoted to just that.) And, considering she and Barack have been happily married for 18 years, it’s kinda fitting that the former POTUS was her very first guest.

“One of the reasons I fell in love with you is because you are guided by the principle that we are each other’s brothers’ and sisters’ keepers and that’s how I was raised,” Michelle told her husband, as the pair reflected on their early days together. “I can say that my family, my neighbourhood, my notions of community growing up shaped that view, and shaped the choices that I made in life as I felt your experiences shape yours.”
True to form, Barack quipped: “It wasn’t just my looks. But that’s okay.”
The former First Lady went on to explain how the pair had been “spending a lot of time together in quarantine,” prompting Barack to joke: “You don’t seem too happy about that. I’ve been loving it.”
Michelle responded by saying she was simply stating a “fact.”
“There wasn’t a judgement,” she laughed, adding that they’d had lots of time to talk about their shared vision of the future. “We’ve had a great time. We’ve had some interesting conversations because these are some crazy times… We’ve spent a lot of time talking about how our views of community shape who we are, shape our choices and shape our reactions.”
Barack also said they’d been discussing the “inheritance” they’d like to leave their daughters, Malia and Sasha. “More than anything what it would be is that they’re living in a country that respects everybody and looks after everybody. Celebrates and sees everybody. Because we know that if we’re not around, that those girls are in a society like that. They’ll be fine.”
