Lady Mary (aka Michelle Dockery) has taken to Instagram to give a glimpse into life on the Downton Abbey movie set, just hours after filming commenced.
“And… we’re off” she captioned the black and white post, which reveals what looks like a sitting room (or possibly servants’ quarters?), with beloved butler Mr Carson (played by Jim Carter) in view.
Dockery was also the first cast member to go public with the news that Downton was heading to the big screen, when she posted the below snap on Instagram back in July:
Focus Features and Carnival Films are producing the Downton Abbey movie, telling Deadline that show creator Julian Fellowes has written the screenplay and many of the original cast – think Dockery, Maggie Smith and Hugh Bonneville – are all on board.
“When the television series drew to a close it was our dream to bring the millions of global fans a movie and now, after getting many stars aligned, we are shortly to go into production,” film producer Gareth Neame told Deadline. “Julian’s script charms, thrills and entertains and in Brian Percival’s hands we aim to deliver everything that one would hope for as Downton comes to the big screen.”
Downton Abbey ran for six seasons and scored numerous accolades, from Golden Globes to Emmys to SAG awards.
