Radio personality Mel Grieg has opened up about the heartbreaking decision she faces over what to do with the frozen embryos she created with ex husband Steve Pollock.
The pair, who split in April after one year of marriage, underwent IVF due to fertility issues faced due to her endometriosis.
“This is a battle that will haunt me for life,” she tells Mamamia.

“I can’t bring myself to destroy them, that doesn’t feel like the right thing to do, and I don’t want to donate them and see a little Mel running around if I haven’t had my own children.”
The 34-year-old, who has signed the divorce papers with Pollock, says she doesn’t want children with her ex and also doesn’t want him to have the embryos to raise with someone else either but says she still considers them her children.
“To me, they are my children even as embryos. I went through hell to create them,” she says.
“But the reality is, it is nearing more and more impossible for me to become a mother.

Greig’s draws parallels to that of Modern Family star Sofia Vergara who is currently embroiled in a vicious legal battle with her former partner, who wants custody of the embryos to raise them as his own.
“When we move on and find new partners, do we just let one partner decide for both of us that we should bring them to life and cut the other parent out?
“I don’t want children with my soon to be ex-husband and I would be heartbroken if he won the right to use the embryos in a new relationship, to see my child raised without me in their life.”
For now, Mel says she is going to keep the embryos frozen while she decides what she wants to do.
