Meghan Markle’s lavish baby shower certainly didn’t hold back, with everything from private jets to $100,000 suites being bought out for the shower of the year. But it was the goodie-packed gift bags that really took the cake.
Complete with guests like Amal Clooney and Serena Williams, there was no shortage of celebrity faces at the event, so it only makes sense that the gift bags were just as impressive as the guest list. According to People, friends of the Duchess walked away with thousands of dollars worth of products, all wheeled away in a designer suitcase (yes, really!).
Presents including a Jo Malone Green Tomato Leaf candle ($88), a Cuyana leather tote ($303), Susanne Kaufmann Body Butter ($111), Tatcha’s Foaming Enzyme Powder ($99), a suitcase from Away ($319) and products from Honest Beauty and Rodin all featured in the haul — which, when added up is extraordinarily expensive, totalling over $900, and even more when you factor in the additional products from Honest Beauty and Rodin.
The penthouse where the shower was hosted, at the Mark Hotel in New York (shown in Williams’ Instagram above), also cost a pretty penny: $100,000 a night, apparently.
Although we’re not sure that Markle purchased the gifts for the guests or if they were organised by a celebrity friend, the expensive treats aren’t going down well, with British press reporting that the public feels like Meghan is ‘out of touch’ with the everyday person. Which, sure, might be true, but royalty aren’t exactly known for their thriftiness — a quick look at Kate Middleton’s wardrobe confirms it.
Expensive gifts or otherwise, we’re just excited to get our first look at Baby Sussex!
