These are interesting times we live in: Kensington Palace has taken it upon itself to let the world know just what kind of wedding cake Prince Harry and his bride-to-be, Meghan Markle, will be having. And thank goodness they did – the suspense was truly killing us.
But this isn’t just any kind of wedding cake – if you were expecting masses of sugar flowers and smooth white fondant, think again. The Palace has named London pastry chef Claire Ptak of so-hip-it-hurts Violet Bakery as the royal couple’s wedding cake maker of choice.
What’s more, they’ve chosen “lemon elderflower” for the cake, in a bid to “incorporate the bright flavours of spring”. Who doesn’t love the taste of spring? Also, it will be “covered with buttercream and decorated with fresh flowers.”
Ptak also shared the news on Violet Bakery’s Instagram, saying Harry and Meghan “share so many of the same values regarding food provenance, sustainability, seasonality and of course, flavour!” as they do. Here’s some of the bakery’s work:
According to Vanity Fair, Markle once interviewed Ptak for her now-closed lifestyle website, The Tig.
