Megan Gale welcomed her second child, a daughter named Rosie, into the world just six weeks ago, and already the mother-of-two has announced she’s the face of Tiffany & Co.’s brand new Metro watch.
But the famed Australian model and actress is the first to be real about parenting, making jokes about Rosie’s party animal tendencies which have her up all night.
Here, we chat to the 42-year-old about juggling a toddler and newborn, the importance of taking time out for you, and of course, her favourite jewellery.
Your daughter Rosie is so beautiful, how are you finding being a mother-of-two?
It’s much busier, that’s for sure! And as she’s a newborn she is, of course, still bit unsettled – bless her, so we’re still settling in as a family.
But she is an absolute sweetheart and a blessing. We are so lucky she’s in our lives.
How is River settling into being a big brother?
Pretty good. He absolutely adores her and there is no sign of jealousy which is great. We are very mindful of making sure he still is getting as much attention from us that we can give him despite the changes.
I’m sure you’re not getting much sleep at the moment, what are some survival tips you’d give first-time mums?
Definitely, don’t put so much pressure on yourself to do everything every day. By that I mean, let the housework go a little bit and definitely ask for help when and if you can. It’s ok to get assistance, it doesn’t mean you’re failing as a mum. And whenever possible: sleep, sleep, sleep.
What have you been doing to ensure you still feel yourself since having Rosie?
I have learnt that’s it’s important to dedicate one little moment to yourself every day to make yourself feel like ‘you’, the woman that’s different to your role as ‘mum,’ and that makes you feel nurtured or special or renewed or regenerated.
They can be simple little things – take five minutes to listen to a favourite song, give myself a quick hand massage with some hand cream, put on a face mask, wash my hair, meditate or go for a walk.
Some days you’ll have more time than others so that will often dictate which thing you choose, but I think it’s a very good thing to do for both the mind and the soul.
Have you been doing any form of exercise since giving birth?
Nothing more than some nice walks. Considering what your body goes through during pregnancy and birth, you need to allow it the time to heal and not over-do things especially in those early weeks.
My goal after both pregnancies has been to get my body strong and pain-free (so many aches and pains arise from pregnancy, birth and breastfeeding etc) and often we get much weaker physically. They are my priorities for right now rather than desperately trying to shift all the baby weight and fit into the pre-baby clothes!
What’s your favourite piece of jewellery and why?
My new Tiffany & Co. Metro watch is a new and treasured addition for sure, however, I don’t think anything will beat the sentimental value of my engagement ring.
The new Metro Watch is so stunning – which one is your favourite and why?
There are so many beautiful styles but the one I have is my favourite because I find it to be so classic, sophisticated and versatile. It coordinates beautifully with my other jewellery and accessories and can be worn with casual wardrobe pieces or dressier looks as well.
