When & Where To Watch The Matildas At The Olympics

The 2024 Olympics are right around the corner which means it’s for us to lock in to full Matildas fan mode once again (as if we ever really stopped).

Matildas-mania swept the country during the FIFA Women’s World Cup last year, which was held on home soil. Now, it’s time to rally around Our Girls once again as they jet off the Paris for the Olympic Games.

From the draw to the full squad, and when and where to watch their first few games; scroll on for everything to know ahead of the Matildas’ run at the 2024 Olympics.

Did The Matildas Qualify For The Olympics?

Yes, the Matildas emerged triumphant from the 2024 Olympic qualifiers.

They secured their spot after beating Uzbekistan 10-0 in Melbourne back in February.

Where To Watch The Olympic Games?

While nothing beats the fun of crowding into a pub to watch the game with friends, you can cheer the Matildas on from home too.

In Australia, the 2024 Olympic Games will be broadcast on more than 40 free-to-air channels under the Nine Network.

2024 Olympic Games Women’s Football Draw

The Olympics football draw was held on March 20, 2024 and split the 12 qualified women’s teams into three groups. Australia is in Group B, facing tough competition alongside the USA and Germany. The draw is as follows:

  • Group A: France, Canada, Columbia and New Zealand
  • Group B: Australia, United States, Zambia, Germany
  • Group C: Spain, Japan, Nigeria, Brazil

When Are The Matildas Playing In The Olympics?

The Matildas will play their first match in the 2024 Olympics on July 26 at 3am AEST. They will kick things off versing Germany, who are currently ranked fifth in the world.

Their second game will be against Zambia on July 29, also at 3am AEST.

For their final game in the first round, the Tillies will play the United States on August 1 at 3am AEST.

Out of this pool of four, the top two teams will advance to the quarter finals. The two, overall-best third place teams from the broader pool will also continue to play. If Australia makes it through, we’ll be sure to update you as to where to watch them play!

Who Is On The Matildas’ 2024 Olympic Squad?

Unfortunately, captain Sam Kerr has been ruled out of the 2024 Olympic Games due to an ACL injury.

However, the Matildas stull have a strong squad with fan-favourites like Mary Fowler, goalie Mackenzie Arnold, Katrina Gorry and Ellie Carpenter set to play. The full team is as follows:
