Transformations for movie roles are a dime a dozen, but when we say you won’t recognise Margot Robbie in her role as Queen Elizabeth we mean it.

Released overnight, the second trailer for Mary Queen of Scots dives further into the story of the two queens – and rival monarchs – Mary of Scotland (Saoirse Ronan) and Elizabeth of England (Margot Robbie) as they fight for claim of the English throne.

The trailer shows 18-year-old Mary Stuart returning to Scotland after her husband, the king of France, dies.

Opening with, “In a time of kings, two queens rule,” the period drama begins with the Academy Award nominees feigning friendship before things quickly turn sour.

With Elizabeth’s failure to provide an heir and Mary’s persistence in voicing her claim of England, war ensues.

The film is due in Australian cinemas on January 17, 2019 and already, one thing looks certain: Ronan and Robbie are likely to be battling it out in real-life for the Best Actress Oscar.
