Our favourite television dad, Bob Saget, has tragically passed away at 65. The actor was found unresponsive in his hotel room at the The Ritz-Carlton in Orlando, Florida, early Sunday. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.
In a statement, his family expressed their devastation at the news.
“Our beloved Bob passed away today,” the statement said. “He was everything to us and we want you to know how much he loved his fans, performing live and bringing people from all walks of life together with laughter.”
The family asked for privacy, but encouraged the world to “join us in remembering the love and laughter that Bob brought to the world.”
Saget stole the hearts of people from all over the world, across all walks of life, namely for his role as the sweet-natured father, Danny Tanner on the hit sitcom Full House from 1987-1995. He made us laugh, he made us cry, but most of all he reminded us to be kind to others.
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, who shared the role of his onscreen daughter Michelle, made a statement to USA TODAY, calling the actor the “most loving, compassionate and generous man.”
“We are deeply saddened that he is no longer with us but know that he will continue to be by our side to guide us as gracefully as he always has,” Mary-Kate and Ashley continued. “We are thinking of his daughters, wife and family and are sending our condolences,” their statement read.
His fellow Full House cast mates have also taken to social media to express their heartbreak.
John Stamos, who played charming Uncle Jessie tweeted:
“I am broken. I am gutted. I am in complete and utter shock. I will never ever have another friend like him. I love you so much Bobby.”
Jodie Sweetin, who played Saget’s daughter, Stephanie took to Instagram, writing:
“There aren’t enough words to express what I’m feeling today. Nor are they big enough to capture even a slice of who he was. One thing I do know, is that we never missed a chance to tell each other, ‘I love you.’ Every time we talked, there were at least 3 or 4 exchanged at the end of a conversation, whether it was text, phone call or in person. And he usually had to have the last word, ‘I love you more…’ “
She ended her heartfelt tribute with one of her character’s iconic lines, which fans will surely remember.
“But you were supposed to be here longer… How Rude.”
Dave Coulier, best-known for playing the goofy Uncle Joey tweeted:
“My heart is broken. I love you, Bob.”
Finally, Candice Cameron, who played Saget’s oldest daughter, D.J Tanner, tweeted that she had “no words.”
“I don’t know what to say. I have no words. Bob was one of the best humans beings I’ve ever known in my life. I loved him so much.”
RIP Bob Saget, you will be dearly missed.
