Pregnancy has been a difficult journey for Martha Kalifatidis and her partner Michael Brunelli, after she battled with hyperemesis gravidarum (extended and extreme morning sickness), throughout the nine months gestation.
However, the happy couple haved announced that their little one has been born safe and sound on 27th February 2023, and is a little boy.
They announced the birth on Instagram. “Lucius Brunelli. He’s here, he’s perfect,” Martha shared with a photo of little Lucius in his cot in hospital.
Fans shared their love for their choice, but others wondered how to pronounce the little boy’s name.
““LOO-SHUS” if you’re wondering,” Martha shared.
The couple, who met on season six of Married At First Sight (MAFS) got engaged in December 2021 and came home from a European getaway in 2022 when they found out that Kalifatidis was pregnant.
Things got real pretty quickly when Martha went through very severe pregnancy sickness, in the form of hyperemesis gravidarum.
Brunelli told Body+Soul, “I mean I’ve been told about morning sickness, but as the weeks passed and her discomfort become extreme, she was vomiting, refused to eat, couldn’t tolerate drinking water, was nauseous 24 hours a day and unable to get out of bed.”
As a partner, Brunelli became a full-time carer for Martha while her body went through the extremes of what we can cope with. Just 10 weeks into the pregnancy she had lost 10 kilograms and needed intravenous fluid to stay hydrated through all the vomiting.
“My entire life stood still in that period. I focused solely on Martha and did what I could to make her feel even the slightest bit more comfortable,” he told the publication.
So, it is no wonder the couple settled on the name they did.
For those who haven’t brushed up on their Latin lately, Lucius is actually a Latin word, meaning ‘light’. We can’t help but feel that for the couple, Lucius was the ‘light at the end of’ a very difficult road.
The couple’s friends jumped straight into the comments to congratulate the pair.
“Yes hair !!! I’m gonna SQUISH. CONGRATULATIONS BOTH OF YOU!!!!” fitness entrepreneur Kayla Itsines wrote on the post.While fellow Australian reality TV star Abbie Chatfield wrote, “Congrats!!!”. Ex-Bachelorette Brooke Blurton shared six ‘love-heart eyed’ emojis.
We can’t wait to see how these budding parents handle new parenthood, but if the way they handled pregnancy is anything to go by, they’ll be pros.
