Since Barbie’s release, the world’s interest in Margot Robbie has skyrocketed. From Robbie’s marriage to her childhood and her favourite beauty products, people have never been more interested in the Australian A-lister.
It’s not super surprising then, to learn people are also interested in how Robbie prepared her body for all of the roller-skating and dance routines, Barbie required—so much so that searches around Robbie’s diet and fitness routine have risen 1300% in the last week.
Unlike some of the more questionable celebrity health and fitness routines we often hear about, Robbie’s approach to health and fitness is pretty balanced.
In preparation for Barbie, the star is reported to have focused on filling her plate with lots of protein and slow-release carbohydrates. Harper’s Bazaar also reported that Robbie’s diet was particularly focused on food’s that encouraged healthy and glowing skin. As our skin is closely linked to our gut health, Robbie ate a lot of gut-friendly foods, such as sauerkraut, kimchi, kefir and berries. According to the publication, Robbie also drank milk thistle tea to “skin luminosity and brightness.”
Robbie has also maintained that she never sacrifices her favourite foods, which include “beer, fries, burgers, waffles and chocolate” even when preparing for a role.
In an interview with Emirates Woman, the 33-year-old said she places equal weight on eating well and training hard and cuts back on her intake of saturated fats, fast food, sugary drinks and chocolate. But, (because human,) she still allows herself a few indulgences.
“I’m not good at doing moderation,” she said. “I get miserable if I don’t eat. I can’t just have a salad every day and a half a glass of wine every second day. I can’t do it.”
According to the publication, Robbie often eats porridge, berries and a kale and apple smoothie for breakfast, lemon chicken and brown rice for lunch and fish (usually tuna) and sweet potato for dinner.
When it comes to getting a sweat on, Robbie has said that she loves intense cardio workouts and often combines running with ice hockey training. Turns out the sport is epic for aerobic fitness and helps create lean, long muscles. However, we also know that she’s also pretty good at strength workouts seeing as she won a plank contest against the rest of the Barbie cast.
