Love Island Australia premiered last night, and it was as trash-tastic as many expected. But while the Twittersphere loved to hate the reality dating shows that came before it, like Bachelor in Paradise, The Bachelorette and Married At First Sight, Love Island has had a very different reaction. If the below tweets are any indication, Love Island is getting very little love at all…
Well judging by the trash I usually watch, I really didn’t think I had a reality tv line that could be crossed. Then #LoveIslandAU came along. It’s genuinely too awful to keep watching. I hope Cassidy finds happiness, she seems a nice girl, but I won’t watch to find out.

Is it just me or does #LoveIslandAU seem really fake in every sense?! What’s with the constant zooming in on boobs and butts?! Plastic, fake, barbie and ken dolls? Tv is really getting desperate for new reality shows! Blah!

So grateful to see @LoveIslandAU's diverse cast. White. Thin. Able bodied. Tall. Bland. #LoveIslandAU pic.twitter.com/lKmsCbu8Qz

People who have absolutely zero banter are the ones who say they have banter. #LoveIslandAU

It's a low bar but this is probably the low point in Australian television history. It's not fun trashy. It's just actual trash. #LoveIslandAU
