Line up the popcorn (and the tissues), the upcoming 2019 movie remake of Louise May Alcott’s classic 1868 novel, Little Women, just got even better with the news that another Hollywood heavyweight is in talks to join the cast.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Golden Globe-winning Big Little Lies actress, Laura Dern, is being wooed for a role in Oscar-nominated director Greta Gerwig’s adaptation of the coming-of-age tale of the March sisters.
A slew of A-list actors are already on the books for the forthcoming film including Academy Award-winning actresses Meryl Streep and Emma Stone, Lady Bird star Saoirse Ronan, Florence Pugh, James Norton and Call Me by Your Name’s Timothée Chalamet.
Gerwig has penned the film adaptation and will direct, which translates to high expectations for a brilliant film based on her recent exceptional work on 2017’s Lady Bird, which Gerwig received two Academy Award nominations for including Best Original Screenplay and Best Director.
As for which actor will play which of the beloved characters, Ronan is set to play independent sister Jo; Pugh is signed on for the role of Amy; Stone will play the eldest sister, Meg; Meryl Streep will take on the role of Aunt March; it’s being speculated that Dern will play Marmee and Chalamet will take on the role of charming neighbour, Laurie Laurence. The Cut reports the role of timid Beth March is currently being cast for.
