Emma Stone And Meryl Streep To Star In New ‘Little Women’ Movie

But the star-studded cast doesn't end there…

For anyone who grew up adoring Louisa May Alcott’s classic coming-of-age tale Little Women, who watched the 1994 film (starring Winona Ryder, Susan Sarandon, Claire Danes, Kirsten Dunst and Christian Bale) every school holidays and who has never liked the name Amy for one very obvious reason, this is quite possibly the biggest movie news of the year: Little Women is getting a remake.

And not just any remake: the biggest names behind what was arguably 2017’s best film, the Oscar-nominated Lady Bird, are on board. Variety reports that director Greta Gerwig is the woman in charge, bringing her Lady Bird stars Saorise Ronan and Timothee Chalamet (who will most likely play Laurie) with her.

It gets better: Meryl Streep and Emma Stone are also said to be circling, with Variety confirming that Columbia Pictures is set to test a handful of actresses opposite Stone for the role of Beth this week.

Although the character casting is TBC, Streep would be most likely to play the March sisters’ mother, and Stone the lead role of Jo.

It’s not the first Little Women remake since 1994: the BBC created a mini-series adaptation just in time for Christmas 2017.

No word yet on when exactly this glorious film will be made, but in the meantime, for sheer nostalgia’s sake, here is the trailer for the 1994 version. Enjoy:
