The third and final book, Freed: Fifty Shades Freed as Told by Christian, in E.L. James‘ sex-filled trilogy spinoff series—that follows her original Fifty Shades of Grey series—is set to be released later this year, as per E! News.

Making the announcement on March 7, Dominique Raccah, Publisher and CEO of Sourcebooks revealed that the final novel is set to hit shelves as soon as June 1.

The original trilogy, which topped best-selling charts, was told from the perspective of Anastasia “Ana” Steele and chronicles her love, life and tribulations with her dominant lover Christian Grey.

Spurring a film trilogy, starring Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan, the spinoff book series follows the same plot lines but this time, it’s told from Christian Grey’s perspective. As for the spinoff’s third and final novel? Fans can expect is to focus on Christian and Ana’s marriage.

The first book, Grey: Fifty Shades of Grey as Told by Christian, was published in 2015 and the second, Darker: Fifty Shades Darker as Told by Christian, in 2017.

“This story has been a labour of love, one that my readers have been eagerly awaiting,” the author said in a statement about Freed: Fifty Shades Freed as Told by Christian.

“For me, just as for Anastasia Steele, Christian is a challenging, infuriating, and endlessly fascinating character. Living in his head is exhausting, but I got to explore aspects of his life in Freed that we only glimpsed in the original trilogy, and to follow his emotional growth in response to Ana’s love and compassion.”

The movie Fifty Shades Freed, the last in the film’s original trilogy, was released in 2018. At the moment, it is unknown whether the spinoff series will also get the film treatment or if the film’s original leads will return to their roles.

Back in 2018, Dornan publicly admitted that he doesn’t plan to return to his role as Christian Grey if more films are made. Appearing on British TV show Lorraine, the British actor admitted he feels he is “too old” for the role, and shared that he is done with the movies all together.

When the host asked if Fifty Shades Freed was the last in the franchise, Dornan responded: “Um yeah, I think so. I don’t think there’s any,”

“I mean there’s no other books. Erica [E.L. James] wrote the first two books again from Christian’s perspective, but I guess we’ve already seen… we’ve done those films, the same story, so they won’t do that again.”
