When Keanu Reeves made his red carpet debut with girlfriend, Alexandra Grant at the LACMA Art + Film Gala in 2019, fans couldn’t hide their excitement.
It was the first publicly confirmed relationship the star had been in since his relationship with Jennifer Syme, who tragically passed away in a car accident in 2001. Reeves has spoken about his grief numerous times over the years, having also lost his and Syme’s unborn baby to a stillbirth a few years earlier. For this reason, Reeve’s many fans couldn’t be happier to see him enjoying a new relationship.

Who Is Alexandra Grant?
Grant is a 50-year-old artist, who has worked on Reeves on a number of projects. The pair first collaborated in 2011, with Grant illustrating Reeves’ book Ode to Happiness. The pair then collaborated again in 2016, with Reeve’s second book Shadows, before starting a publishing company together, X Artists’ Books, in 2017.
Grant is currently based in Los Angeles but spend her childhood living in four different countries. In 2019, Grant told LA Weekly, that she grew up in “part in Mexico City, Washington, DC, and Paris, moving between languages and cultures.”
“Los Angeles felt like home from the moment I first arrived in 1995, especially the diversity of people, idioms, foods, and plants (like jacaranda and bougainvillea). There’s an incredible work ethic here—many people are creative and entrepreneurial. When Did Alexandra Grant And Keanu Reeves Start Dating?
Reeves and Grant have been friends since working together in 2011, and even made their first event debut as friends at the UNAIDS Galaat Design Miami/Basel in Switzerland in 2016. However, it took another three years for the pair to officially start seeing each other.
According to People’s sources, the couple began dating a few months before making their official red carpet debut in November 2019. Sources told the publication that the couple had been spotted at Los Angeles restaurant Giorgio Baldi in October of that year, where they “arrived together in Reeve’s Porsche and spent three hours inside the restaurant conversing and sharing a meal.”
The couple had also attended a Saint Laurent’s fashion show in 2019, where they publicly held hands. Since then, the couple have seemed to go from strength to strength, with the pair attending multiple red carpet events and talking openly about their relationship.

In March 2020, Grant opened up to Vogue about her her red carpet debut with Reeves, when she stated “I think every single person I knew called me in the first week of November, and that’s fascinating, but the question I’ve been asking in all of this is: ‘What is the opportunity for good.”
Earlier this year, Reeves was the one to open up about the relationship, when he told People that Grant was the person he spent his last moment of bliss with.
“A couple of days ago with my honey [was my last moment of bliss],” he told the publication. “We were in bed. We were connected. We were smiling and laughing and giggling. Feeling great. It was just really nice to be together.”
Grant also reflected on their relationship in September 2023 interview with People.
“The good news about falling in love as an adult is that I had built my own career by the time that my relationship had begun,” Grant told People. “I feel very confident in the relationship on the red carpet. I feel confident on it alone.”
She also talked about the growth she has experienced in her relationship with Reeves.
“In a moment of frustration in my life, I once said, ‘Sometimes I feel like a Maserati stuck in traffic,’ that I have this big engine, but, for a variety of reasons, that I couldn’t ever go,” she said. “And I know a lot of people feel frustrated in their lives, that they’re not able to run their engine. I think every creative person feels that way.”
She added “What I love about Keanu and our exchange is that we’re pushing each other to build new roads. Seeing the other person’s problem-solving is inspiring, like, ‘Oh, well, okay, this one, that’s a cul-de-sac. How do I try this other thing?’”
Grant also shared her admiration for her partner.
“He’s such an inspiration to me. He’s so creative, he’s so kind,” she said. “He works so hard. To make a film, you require hundreds of people. To be an artist, you don’t. You require one. You require a community to get the work into the world, but not to actually make it. I think part of the inspiration is the differences of scale.”
The pair were also pictured at the 2023 LACMA gala, looking so in love four years after their initial debut as a couple.
