When actors Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith welcomed their children, ‘Jaden’ and ‘Willow’ into the world in 1998 and 2000 respectively, no one really batted an eyelid at their names.
Some eagle-eyed fans may have realised the origins of those names, but for many, it went over their heads.
Yet, it turns out that the names are inspired by their parents’ names.
For example, Jaden, is influenced by his mother’s name ‘Jada Pinkett Smith’, while Willow, is influenced from her father’s name, ‘Will Smith’.
This interesting family tale has reared its head once more due to the widespread publicity the couple has faced as a result of the 2022 ‘Oscars slap’, when Will Smith slapped Chris Rock on stage over a comment Rock made about his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.
While that happened over a year ago, Rock has just released a comedy special on Netflix, called Selective Outrage, which brought the issue to the fore, once more.
Jaden and Willow Smith’s full name and meaning
Jaden was named, Jaden Christopher Syre Smith and was born in July 1998. His younger sister, Willow’s, full name is Willow Camille Reign Smith, and she was born in October 2000.
The couple have never publicly confirmed that the inspiration for their children’s names came from their own, but the similarity is hard to miss.
Fans were shocked to find out about this hidden meaning, although some smart Twitter commentators laughed at the ignorance of the public.
“You slow ass…just realized that WILLOW and JADEN Smith ‘s names were concocted from the name of their parents, WILL and JADA?,” one said.
While others commented that they were very shocked to find out the news, “Lol hey, I am late on this,” they commented, along with, “Literally found out today.”
