Every home entertainer needs a well-stocked bar cart. How else are you going to craft the perfect cocktail, display your decanted wine, or show off your whisky collection

There’s a method to building a functional bar cart to ensure it serves all your entertaining needs. From foundational spirits to cocktail tools and personal touches, there are a few things to consider before you embark on your bar cart journey.

Here we reveal how to assemble your dream drinks station to host happy hour whenever you please. Because it’s always five o’clock somewhere, right?

Step One: Choose A Bar Cart

It goes without saying that before you begin to stock and style your bar cart… you’ll need a cart. First decide where in your home it will be displayed, as this will help you figure out which size and shape is right for your space.

Against a blank wall in your dining room or kitchen is a great place to start, as this is most likely where you’ll be shaking, stirring and serving drinks. Next, find a style that complements your décor.

Whether have a brushed brass cart, stationary timber cabinet, or industrial matt black trolley in mind, a quick google search will bring up a variety of pieces to shop online. Or you can scour your local vintage stores for a charming, second-hand piece.

Step Two: Stock Up On Spirits

Now we’re getting to the fun part. Create a collection of versatile spirits—like tequila, vodka, and whisky—to make a variety of cocktails. Don’t be afraid to start small with a few basic bottles and expand your collection over time.

Not sure where to start? For cocktails, ensure you have a bottle of The Glenlivet’s Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky on the top shelf. Its smooth and fruity flavour profile means it is an excellent single malt to sip neat and mixes well with other ingredients and spirits, making it a bar cart essential.

Step 3: Add A Personal Touch

Of course, you’ll need a few more things to complete your at-home drinks station. Add must-have bar tools like a cocktail shaker and strainer alongside spirit mixers and cocktail garnishes, such as dehydrated limes for a whisky Margarita

Don’t forget to add personal touches. Use decorative trays, cocktail napkins, or beautiful tapered candles to make it feel more inviting and reflective of your personality. Or shop our bar cart edit below for more spirited ideas.
